Setting fire to own homes not new - Insurance Council

| Latest Christchurch News | Monday April 23 2012 9:24

The head of the Insurance Council says homeowners setting fire to their own properties to claim insurance is nothing new.

This after claims that desperate Canterbury residents are turning to arson to commit insurance fraud.

Insurance Council CEO Chris Ryan says while it's happening, it's not a widespread occurrence.

Mr Ryan says the repercussions of lighting fires to claim insurance are far worse than what people may be facing at the moment.
