Cardboard Cathedral given go-ahead

| Latest Christchurch News | Monday April 16 2012 13:34

The much talked about Cardboard Cathedral has been given the go-ahead in Christchurch.

Bishop Victoria Matthews has made an announcement to media at the the St John's church site in Latimer Square this afternoon.

The temporary structure will serve as a place for community worship and gathering until a new permanent cathedral is built.

Transitional Cathedral Group spokesman Richard Gray says the transitional cathedral is a symbol of hope for the future, and should attract national and international interest.

The Cardboard Cathedral will be built on the corner of Hereford and Madras Streets, with seating for 700.

It will also provide a venue for concerts, exhibitions, civic and community events.
