People glad quakes happened - researcher

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Christchurch News | Thursday October 18 2012 8:30

A University of Canterbury researcher says many people are glad the earthquakes happened.

Fourth year marketing student Meagan Parker's spent four months looking at the attitudes from the survivors of the September 2010 and February 2011 quakes.

Meagan Parker says many people were glad the earthquakes happened, as it forced them to break from their mundane existences.

Ms Parker says the quakes gave people an excuse to try new things and become less attached to sentimental objects that might be damaged in an event like an earthquake.

She says the shakes gave people an opportunity to shift their values, and possessions have become less important.
