Questions over legality in Hagley Park decisions

By: Shani Annand-Baron | Latest Christchurch News | Thursday August 23 2012 6:46

Questions are being raised over the legalities of decisions being made over Hagley Park in Christchurch.

The Christchurch Civic Trust is advising caution over the park's cricket oval development, given legislation covering the public space.

Deputy chairman Christopher Kissling says the message is clear.

"We're asking the audit and risk management, so a committee of the Christchurch City Council, to be very sure and take legal advice otherwise they could be facing legal challenges in the future."

A report has been requested on the council's decision-making process in relation to the Cricket Oval, with emphasis on four Acts that outline rules.

The ground's currently having a wicketblock, outfield and irrigation upgrade and is provisionally in the Central City Blueprint for further upgrades.
