There's been a third attempt to lure children into a vehicle by a man on Auckland's North Shore. On Wednesday afternoon a nine-year-old girl was offered a lift by an unknown man in his 40s. Yesterday, two 13-year-old girls were approached in Red Beach by a man fitting the same description, again offering a ride. And on Monday, a five-year-old boy in Greenhithe was allegedly grabbed by the man, but the boy managed to get away. Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Batty says inquiries are now underway to establish any links between the incidents. Albany Ward councillor Wayne Walker says it's a real concern, but it's reassuring to see none of the children has taken the man up on his offer.
"Obviously we need to get a message out to quite a variety of schools around the region so that people are on guard." Mr Walker says Red Beach is a safe place, and lots of children choose to walk or ride their bikes to school. Photo: NZ Herald |
