Weekend works to affect rail network

By: Juliette Sivertsen | Latest Auckland News | Friday October 12 2012 4:55

A major upgrade of Auckland's rail network will see buses replace some trains this weekend.

Buses will be operating on the Western, Eastern and Manukau Lines, and from Otahuhu to Papakura on the Southern Line.

Auckland Transport's warning there could be minor delays to services next week to allow for the weekend works to settle in.

Preparatory works for electric trains include installing overhead wires and foundation works for the masts at various points and stations.

As well as track maintenance, signalling works are to be carried out as well.

KiwiRail is also rearranging the tracks at Papakura to provide a dedicated freight line through the station.
