Milford residents oppose high rise development

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Auckland News | Tuesday August 7 2012 7:12

Residents of a North Shore suburb want its image as a low-key beach resort to prevail over plans for high rise development.

The New Zealand Herald reports the Milford Residents' Association opposes plans to develop high rise apartment towers above the shopping mall.

It's met with Auckland Council planning commissioners over the proposal.

The association's co-leader Deborah Dunsford says any development in Milford should recognise and enhance the holiday atmosphere.

Milford Shopping Centre is arguing to change the district plan to enable the mall to take nine apartment buildings from four storeys to 16 or 17 stories.
