ASB Community Trust pledges $5m to waterfront theatre project

Celebrations at Auckland Theatre Company.

The ASB Community Trust is stumping up with $5 million dollars for the proposed new theatre on Auckland's waterfront.

It takes the money pledged so far to almost $22 million.

The total amount needed for the 600 seat venue is $35 million.

The new theatre will be located on the corner of Halsey and Jellicoe Streets alongside the new office building that will house ASB's head office.

Construction is likely to start in early 2013 with the theatre opening in mid 2014.
