| Latest Auckland News | Monday October 1 2012 8:03

Work's starting on Auckland's Waterview Connection, and it could cause some delays for motorists.

The project will create the Western Ring Route - connecting State Highways 16 and 20.

Enabling works have started at the northern end of the connection meaning lanes in both directions along Great North Road will be narrowed and re-aligned.

State Highways manager Tommy Parker says motorists will notice the disruption.

"There will be some minor road works as we're about to remove houses set up the site at the northern end, there will be some cones on the road but all the routes will be open as usual."

He says the project is still on track to be completed by 2016.

"There's going to be traffic management there for the next little while, at least the next six months in the first instance."

Tommy Parker says motorists on Great North Road will notice lanes in both directions will be re-aligned and narrowed to allow the work to be done.
