Dramatic coastguard rescue at Bethells beach

A dramatic rescue has been carried out in Bethells beach, West of Auckland this afternoon.

One man went missing while he was out surfing with a friend, triggering a response from both the Coastguard and Police.

The Papakura-One Coastguard aircraft, rescue helicopter and four vessels were used in the search.

A smoke flare was set off and the person was found and has been brought safely to shore.
