Plans to close five Auckland visitor centres

By: Natasha Burling | Latest Auckland News | Wednesday October 24 2012 9:14

Twenty jobs are on the line as Auckland's tourism body plans to close five visitor centres.

The affected i-SITEs are located at Orewa, Takapuna, Kumeu, Pukekohe and Bombay.

Auckland Tourism Events and Economic Development says it's difficult to justify the $2.7 million they're expected to lose over the next four years, particularly in the current economic climate.

Chief executive Brett O'Riley says ATEED will be discussing the proposal with affected managers and staff over the next fortnight, but a number of the staff involved are very experienced and other jobs within the council are likely to be found for them.

A final decision will be announced on November 9.
