An eye opener for Auckland mayor Len Brown who's on a campaign to clean up the city's CBD from bad behaviour fuelled by booze. He went on a walkabout along Queen Street in the early hours of this morning. "95 percent of people were behaving themselves, some a little bit inebriated, and then of course you get the five percent of idiots." Len Brown says it's clear he will have to crack down on bottle shop opening hours. "The bottle shops open until five, it's not good enough, and so that's going to be an immediate area where I'm going to be looking long and hard at. Fifteen bottle shops up and down K Rd in a very short space, this is just untenable, we can't do that." Mr Brown says he will also have to work with bar owners to close up earlier. Photo: NZ Herald |
