Disappointment over Pukekohe choice for V8s

By: Annabel Reid | Latest Auckland News | Tuesday October 16 2012 6:32

The boss of Hampton Downs is disappointed money's being poured into Pukekohe to get it fit to host the V8s.

A $6.6 million dollar upgrade for the Pukekohe Park Raceway has been announced ahead of the V8 Supercar Championship in April.

Hampton Downs also bid for the event, and managing director Tony Roberts says they could've hosted it at a fraction of the price.

"As an Auckland ratepayer, I'm really disappointed that some of my rates are going towards upgrading a private facility, when five minutes further down the road there's a purpose-built facility that's brand new and can do the same job without spending the money."

Mr Roberts says the only cost at Hampton Downs would've been a small amount on car parking.
