After approving $11 million for V8 Supercars, Auckland ratepayers are now being asked to fork out $30 million for a white water rafting project. The Council Controlled Organisation Regional Facilities Auckland wants the money to build a rafting course next to the Pacific Events Centre in Manukau. Councillor Dick Quax says the project was thrown out by the former Manukau City Council and rejected by the High Court, after the trust which runs the centre took legal action. He says it's just another attempt at resurrecting the proposal. "This is just an ongoing nightmare and it's time for the trust and for the Regional Facilities Auckland to stop bullying the council... and realise that this is a no-starter." Photo: NZ Herald |
