Len Brown's promise to increase rates by an average of 2.9 percent has to be put into perspective. That's the view of No More Rates founder David Thornton to the Auckland Mayor's proposal. David Thornton also says a third of ratepayers will be paying increases of five to 10 percent because of revaluations. He also says council still has an enormous debt load but the Mayor says he won't cut out any major projects.
