Those living in Auckland City look like they may have to start mowing their own berms. It's the only area in the Auckland region where the council mows residents' berms, but the service is facing the axe with Auckland Council looking at cost-cutting measures. Deputy mayor Penny Hulse says it'll save money, and ensure all parts of Auckland are being treated fairly. "The rates increase should definitely be below 4-percent, and as part of that work, we're looking at where we can reduce budgets and economise." Penny Hulse says it costs $3 million a year to mow the private berms for Auckland City residents. Photo: NZ Herald |
