Fruit fly restrictions could soon be lifted

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Auckland News | Thursday May 24 2012 17:56

It looks like the restrictions in place due to Auckland's Australian fruit fly scare could be lifted as early as this weekend.

Today around 50 staff have been out monitoring traps and analysing the fruit collected.

The Ministry for Primary Industries says there has been no indication of any other Queensland fruit flies, following the discovery of the single fly two weeks ago.

Over three tonnes of fruit has been removed from collection bins.

Final test results from the traps yet to be analysed are due back tomorrow.

If there is no trace of any fruit fly, restrictions on fruit in the banned areas will be lifted.
