Mayor considering future transport funding options

By: Annabel Reid | Latest Auckland News | Monday July 16 2012 11:26

Auckland Mayor Len Brown has outlined three options he's seeking more information on as the council looks to pay for transport projects for the city.

There's a 10 to $15 billion funding gap between the projects and what rates cover.

He says he remains open minded about how funding will be found, but there are three he's investigating further.

They are regional fuel taxes, congestion and network charges and additional car park charges.

Mr Brown says congestion and network options, where people are charged to enter busy areas, work well in Singapore and London.

The council plans to take its proposal to Government in a year's time.
