An emotional farewell this afternoon for Auckland hunter Alexander Cameron McDonald.
The 29-year-old builder was shot dead last Saturday while deer hunting in south Wairarapa with a friend.
His funeral at Purewa Cemetery in Meadowbank has just concluded.
Mr McDonald's body was released to family on Wednesday, after a post mortem examination.
Central Hawke's Bay mayor and long-time friend Peter Butler officiated at this afternoon's service.
At least 300 mourners spilled out into the grounds at Purewa.
Mr McDonald's coffin was carried out to an Oasis song.
Police expect their inquiries into Mr McDonald's death to take another week.
