Auckland kids living in poor circumstances

A report has found too many Auckland children live in poor circumstances.

The council has released its inaugural Children and Young People publication which highlights the opportunities and challenges faced by youth - who make up a third of the city's population.

Senior social researcher Dr Carina Meares says the report also finds the health of Auckland's young people is poor by international standards.

"Some of the ways that have been suggested that we might suggest some of those issues is with respect to improving the housing stock that children and families are currently living in."
