Hard times at the city mission. Auckland City Mission is one $100,000 behind budget and desperately calling for donations as numbers using the facility increase dramatically. The number needing the services of the mission has increased by 1000 this year and the demand for the services is high. Spokesperson for the charity, Diane Robertson, says in the last year mission social workers have given out more than 10,000 food parcels. "People are really struggling so when it gets to winter it's that much more difficult for them, and of course we see a lot more people in our medical services because there are a lot more illnesses going around." Ms Robertson says currently the city mission is finding it very hard to meet people's needs. |
