Auckland councillor speaks out over rising debt

By: Natasha Burling | Latest Auckland News | Thursday October 18 2012 14:43

An Auckland councillor says a billion dollars worth of new debt over the past financial year has been spent on bits and bobs.

Cameron Brewer says three million dollars a day is not going towards building the likes of big bridges or tunnels to support Auckland's growth.

He says it's instead being spent on the likes of computer software, motor vehicles and office furniture.

Mr Brewer says the next generation of ratepayers, who will be lumped with crippling interest payments, will wonder where all this money was frittered away.
