Westmere residents want to save suburb's history

By: Nina Burton | Latest Auckland News | Tuesday October 9 2012 9:12

Westmere residents are taking action to save the history of their Auckland suburb.

They've signed a petition in response to the city's unitary plan, with concern old homes could be torn down, in favour of new developments.

Westmere Heritage Protection Association coordinator Lisa Prager, says the plan has sweeping power to deliver intensification at all costs, and it must be stopped.

She says while new developments need to happen in Auckland, suburbs with beautiful old homes aren't the place for it.

Ms Prager says western suburbs are ideal for new developments, not suburbs like Ponsonby, Herne Bay, Westmere and Grey Lynn.
