Major boost for area of Auckland

There's been a major boost for an Auckland area.

The Government and Auckland Council are jointly forming New Zealand's first urban development company, which is set to transform Tamaki over the next 15 to 25 years.

Local councillor Richard Northey says it will give the people of Glen Innes, Point England and Panmure something to look forward to.

He says it's an area where more housing can be provided, and it's important that the project can build on the strengths of the existing community.
