Another student protest is planned for this evening for Auckland. This time it's a silent protest against government cuts to education. Students have protested twice in the past fortnight, with 43 people arrested last Friday. "Blockade the Budget" spokesman Jai Bentley-Payne says tonight's action is largely symbolic. "There's always a nuance of course, however we have to stress to people that what we are interested in is the issues, we're interested in the cuts across the education sector." The protest is planned to start at 8pm at the University of Auckland library. Photo: Protestors arrested at a protest last week (Matt Young) |
