Key defends SkyCity

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Auckland News | Tuesday May 8 2012 9:53

John Key's defending SkyCity casino over claims problem gambling is getting worse.

The number of people identified at the casino as potential problem gamblers has risen from 661 in 2008, to 2,582 last year.

But the Prime Minister, who's promoting a pokie for convention centre deal with the casino, says that doesn't mean the problem's getting worse.

"SkyCity have got better at using techniques to work out whether someone is a problem gambler or not. They certainly take their responsibilities very seriously - as they should - because if they don't they could lose their licence."
