Jacob's Ladder footbridge work to resume

By: Annabel Reid | Latest Auckland News | Friday October 5 2012 8:05

Work will resume this weekend on the Jacobs Ladder footbridge which passes over the northern motorway.

Construction was halted on the overpass, which will link St Mary's Bay to the waterfront, after small cracks were found in some of the panels being used to clad the footbridge.

NZTA's acting state highways manager for Auckland, Steve Hutton, says they've tested the panels and are confident they're strong enough for construction to resume.

He says crews will be back on site on Sunday morning, and they hope the walkway will be completed by Christmas.

Once it's open and once the Wellington Street on-ramp is re-opened on Monday, the Victoria Park Tunnel project - one of the Government's roads of national significance - will be completed.
