An economic impact report shows the Volvo Ocean Race's Auckland stopover generated six million dollars for the Auckland economy.

The local organising committee also returned a $201,000 surplus on its budget.

The economic impact report shows visitor numbers to the waterfront race village exceeded 275,000 and 98 percent of people were satisfied with the experience.

Auckland is among 33 cities which are now being considered to host a leg of the 2014/15 event.
