Auckland's future outlined

By: Natasha Burling | Latest Auckland News | Thursday March 29 2012 7:58

Auckland Council members will today be signing off a plan that outlines the city's future for the next 30 years.

The Auckland Council will be giving the go ahead to the Auckland Plan, which will provide a blueprint for the city.

The plan includes the City Rail Link, a cruise ship terminal and a greener and more pedestrian-friendly city centre. It also includes the Economic Development Strategy, the City Centre Masterplan and the Waterfront Plan.

The Auckland Plan will be put into action by the 10-year Long Term Plan, which outlines priority projects and activities, and how to pay for them.

Massey University Public Management Group director Andy Asquith says for the first time ever, Auckland has a single plan.

"It's not just a plan for Auckland, Auckland is the economic engine of New Zealand. If Auckland works well, New Zealand works well and does well."

Andy Asquith says it has been an immense task to pull the plan together in less than 18 months.

The Annual Plan runs until June the 30th.
