Potential shake-up for Auckland's sport stadiums

By: Jacqui Stanford | Latest Auckland News | Sunday September 23 2012 13:22

Auckland Council will this week vote on a radical shake-up of the city's sports grounds.

The proposed changes would see the Warriors playing at Eden Park, the speedway moving to Mt Smart Stadium and cricket matches held at Western Springs.

Mt Smart would remain the Warriors' training base.

North Harbour Stadium wouldn't be touched.

The report says Regional Facilities Auckland has found the region's stadiums could be better utilised "for the benefit of sporting codes".

It says operating cost pressures and future capital requirements could be reduced by integrating operations and management across the stadiums.

The Council will vote on the proposals at its next meeting in Pukekohe on Thursday.
