Auckland's Diwali festival set back by weather

By: Sam Thompson | Latest Auckland News | Saturday October 13 2012 13:42

A wet start to the Diwali festival in Auckland's Aotea Square.

The two day Indian festival of lights celebration is hosted by the Auckland Council.

Spokesman Chris Gregory says the rain has set back the opening of the festival's performances on the main stage.

"As far as the food stalls, the craft stalls, the fan trail from QE square and the indoor demonstration from Rangoli Art, it's business as usual. It would have been nice to start with a little sun but I know it's forecast later in the day."

The festival will be officially opened by the Prime Minister at 3pm.
