University students uniting against fee increases

By: Annabel Reid | Latest Auckland News | Wednesday October 10 2012 11:08

Auckland University students are holding a street party this afternoon to 'Fight the Fees'.

Fees at the university have increased by four percent every year since 2010, and students are gathering signatures for a petition to halt the same happening this year.

Students behind the campaign say the university's claims of austerity are laughable given the vice-chancellor is getting paid $800,000, while 15 percent of students are living in financial distress.

After the street party, students will visit the vice-chancellor's office and present him with their petition.
