Couple demand Fonterra change payment rules

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Rural News | Friday July 20 2012 12:42

A Coromandel couple is demanding Fonterra fix its sharemilker payment rules after having more than $80,000 stolen by their former farm owner.

Lance Burt has been sentenced in the Tauranga District Court to nine months in prison and ordered to pay nearly $82,000 in reparations to Ian and Lisa Handcock, after being convicted for the dishonest use of a computer.

Heâ s appealing the conviction in the High Court in Hamilton.

Mr Burt emailed Fonterra to cancel the Handcockâ s sharemilking payments, and had the funds diverted instead to his company account.

Lisa Handcock is calling on Fonterra to stop taking farm owners at face value and demand proof of their solicitorâ s trust account details.
