Farm sales slow as winter sets in

By: Michael Oliver | Latest Rural News | Friday July 13 2012 11:29

The number of farms sold nationwide is starting to slow as winter sets in.

Figures released by the Real Estate Institute show a 13 percent drop in the number of farms sold between May and June this year.

There were 406 farm sales in the three months to June, compared with 467 in the three months to May.

But the institute's rural spokesman Brian Peacoke says demand for farms remains strong, despite a volatile commodities market.

Overall, he says demand for dairy farms is strong, with 1413 farms sold in the year to June, 47 percent more than the previous year.
