Govt's education reform costs still unclear - Labour MP

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Political News | Monday October 15 2012 9:09

Fresh concerns are being raised about the information the Government's used to sell its education reforms in Canterbury.

Earthquake damage is among the reasons given by the Government for restructuring that proposes to close 13 schools and merge 18 more.

But Labour MP Chris Hipkins says the Government's own information shows it doesn't yet have estimated costs for repairing quake damage to Christchurch schools and that damage assessments are still being done.

"I would expect before they announce concrete proposals to close and merge schools that they would have done their homework and got their figures all lined up first, they haven't done that."
