Backlash against government plan for beneficiary parents

By: Jacqui Stanford | Latest Political News | Sunday October 28 2012 7:55

Home schoolers have come out against a plan to force beneficiary parents to send their children to pre-schools.

The Home Education Foundation says Paula Bennett's one-size-fits all approach leaves parents with no options.

It says the social obligations will prevent parents from making their own decisions about their childrens' health and education.

Spokeswoman Barbara Smith says many parents believe what the research says: that most children do better learning at home.

"There's a very small group of children that would be better in early childhood education, and those are the underprivileged ones who are being abused, who have no books in the home, and where parents are not interested in helping educate their children at all.

Barbara Smith says the Government should concentrate on these families and give good parents the freedom to choose they deserve.
