Water rights consultation entering final stages

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Political News | Thursday September 27 2012 11:34

The Government's controversial water rights consultation with iwi is entering its final stages.

It's been talking with select iwi about the Shares Plus proposal put forward by the Waitangi Tribunal as a means to settle claims against state owned power companies that face partial floats.

It's an option the Government doesn't favour.

Deputy Prime Minister Bill English met with Ngati Maniapoto representatives yesterday.

Today he meets with Waikaremoana-based iwi, and he'll conclude the round of talks tonight when he meets with Ngai Tahu in Christchurch.
