Lawyers anxiously await justice sector changes

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Political News | Friday September 7 2012 10:08

Youth advocate lawyers are anxiously waiting news about the future shape of their role, as the government continues to trim the justice sector.

Auckland Youth Advocate, Helen Bowen, worries that funding cut will see the demise of specialised training for lawyers representing youth offenders.

"If the bill was introduced, what I see it doing is diluting the pool of lawyers so that anybody could basically be a lawyer for a young person without any of those experiences or without any real understanding of the act."
