Future of ECAN to be made clear

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Political News | Thursday September 6 2012 13:01

The government will be making an announcement on the future make-up of ECAN tomorrow.

Minister of Local Government David Carter and Minister for the Environment Amy Adams will be at the announcement at 10am tomorrow at the Ibis Hotel.

The announcement will be on the future governance of the regional council which has had government-appointed commissioners in charge since 2010

No guarantees have been made that the Council will return to having elected councillors at next year's local body elections.

And there's been speculation, based on public comments made by former Local Government Minister Nick Smith, that the Government may look at having a mix of councillors and Government appointed representatives running the local authority.
