There's doubt the Maori Party and National will be able to move past current tension over asset sales.
The Maori Party's threatening to walk away from its confidence and supply deal with the Government if treaty protection clauses is not extended to those state owned enterprises marked for partial sale.
AUT professor of indigenous studies Rawiri Taonui says there's a lot of pressure from constituents about what might unfold.
"I think that continuing the arrangement is going to be very difficult," he says.
"I think if they're prioritising Maori interests, the Treaty interests that derives from the State Owned Enterprise Act, then I think they really have to consider withdrawing from the partnership with National."
