Labour noncommittal on Napier-Gisborne line

| Latest Political News | Friday October 26 2012 15:24

It opposes the closure of the Napier-Gisborne rail line but the Labour Party is making no promises to restore it if it leads the next Government.

Labour MP Moana Mackey says the decision is a mistake and she challenges the financial numbers the Government and KiwiRail have used to support the decision.

But she won't promise Labour will reopen the line if it becomes the Government in 2014.

She says they can't commit to reopening something when they don't know how much it would cost.
