Govt's stance on privacy dangerous - Norman

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Political News | Thursday August 16 2012 19:19

Heavy-handed and dangerous is how the Greens are viewing the Government's stance on privacy.

It follows Social Development Minister Paula Bennett's announcement she won't apologise for releasing personal details of a beneficiary, and also not ruling out taking similar action again.

Green Party Co-Leader Russel Norman is damning the Government over the state of affairs.

"That approach is an approach that silences dissent, chills dissent in a democratic society and is not acceptable in a democratic and free country."

Cabinet Minister Gerry Brownlee says the Government considers the matter closed.
