Govt didn't order inquiry into MFAT leak

By: Felix Marwick | Latest Political News | Tuesday May 8 2012 17:54

The Government says it didn't order an inquiry into a leak regarding Ministry of Foreign Affairs restructuring.

The State Services Commission has announced an investigation will take place into how a cabinet paper outlining revised restructuring plans made it into the hands of Labour MP Phil Goff

The Prime Minister says the investigation wasn't directed by Cabinet.

He says the State Services Commissioner felt it was important for the integrity of the state service that a look into where the leak came from be undertaken.

"He obviously treats a leak of a cabinet committee paper very seriously and given there was such a small number of people that had access to that information, he felt an investigation was worthwhile and we supported him in that."
