GCSB: Key denies allegations on interception warrants

| Latest Political News | Friday October 19 2012 5:14

The Prime Minister is denying opposition allegations he should have signed off on interception warrants used by the GCSB.

The spy agency is set to be subject to a formal investigation after it was revealed the GCSB illegally spied on people connected to the Megaupload case

John Key says he's not required to approve all interception warrants sought by the GCSB.

He says there are certain examples where a ministerial warrant is required, but in terms of individuals, they're not.

Mr Key says they're needed when the matter involves a New Zealand resident and then it becomes a matter for the SIS.
