Public opinion sought by Govt on laser use

| Latest Political News | Thursday November 1 2012 14:33

A possible ban on the importation of high powered lasers is one of the options being considered by the Government after a number of incidents involving malicious use of the devices.

Public opinion is being sought on how the high power hand-held laser pointers should be managed.

In 2011, about 100 laser strikes on aircraft were reported and in the past 10 years, 131 claims were made to ACC for injuries suffered from the use.

There are no laws governing the import, availability and sale of the lasers.
