Key's 'too gay' for Helensville - Craig

By: Katie Bradford-Crozier | Latest Political News | Sunday September 2 2012 10:44

Conservative Party leader Colin Craig thinks John Key is "too gay" for his Helensville seat.

He's sent letters to about 20,000 homes in the electorate, urging them not to back the same-sex marriage bill.

Mr Craig attributes the "too gay" comment to a disgruntled local, who wants him to run against the Prime Minister.

He says people have told him they're disgusted Mr Key is supporting the bill without asking their views.

But Mr Key isn't worried.

He says his electorate office has had only a few phone calls of complaint.

"I welcome any fair competition come election 2014. I wish him the best but I have got the largest majority in the country so I hope I can continue to enjoy the support of the good people of Helensville in 2014."
