Former Police Commissioner to lead review of CYFs complaints process

By: Katie Bradford- Crozier | Latest Political News | Thursday October 25 2012 16:33

Former Police Commissioner Howard Broad will lead a review of the Child Youth and Family complaints process.

The independent review was announced as part of the Government's White Paper for Vulnerable Children.

It'll look at the way people can have a complaint about CYF heard, a review of the arrangements and consider options for independence, and the implications of those.

Social Development Minister Paula Bennett says advice from the Department is their current way of operating is working fine and there's evidence it's upholding complaints, not dismissing them.

"I want to get some independent advice on whether or not we really have got it right and I don't think it's right for the department to be doing that."

The review will be completed by the end of 2013.
