Work to be fast-tracked on National War Memorial

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Political News | Friday September 28 2012 9:24

A bill's been passed into law allowing the fast-tracking of work on the National War Memorial in Wellington.

MPs last night voted 104 to 15 in favour of legislation that'll allow the project, which includes the under-grounding of an arterial road, to be completed in time for ANZAC Day Commemorations in 2015.

The law gives authorities the power to acquire land, and blocks the ability of objectors to block the project in the courts.

The Greens and Mana MP Hone Harawira voted against the bill.
