Six named as Labour's candidate in Christchurch East byelection.

Six people have been named as Labour's candidate for the Christchurch East byelection.

The seat is to be vacated by veteran MP Lianne Dalziel who is standing for the Christchurch mayoralty.

James Caygill, Karen Hayes, Christina Laalaai-Tausa, Tina Lomax, Deon Swiggs and Poto Williams have all put their hands up for the role.

The selection meeting will be held on September 21.

Labour's campaign for Christchurch East is expected to be a tough battle, and is being run by former MP Jim Anderton.
