Govt 'ignoring' public over local reforms

By: Felix Marwick | Latest Political News | Friday November 2 2012 7:00

The Government's being accused of ignoring public opinion on its planned local government reforms.

The Government's to proceed with its original bill despite a select committee being split and unable to recommend it proceed.

Labour MP Annette King says it shows the select committee process was a sham particularly given the large number of submissions that opposed the Government's proposals.

And she doesn't believe the Government has the moral authority to pass the legislation.

Annette King says the Government should have listened to the submitters.
